The ACOS Alliance is at the International Journalism Festival in Perugia this week (19-23 April) with a series of safety clinics and sessions for journalists and editors. On Thursday 20th and Friday 21st April, safety experts from ACOS signatory organizations are offering free 50 minute clinics at the Hotel La Rosetta. These tailored consultations can cover any aspect of safety, including physical preparedness, digital security, online harassment, legal issues and psychological well-being. They are particularly useful for independent journalists and editors looking for guidance on a specific issue, assignment or situation. Pre-booking is essential. ACOS is also hosting Safety 101: for newsrooms and journalists - a guide through the opportunities and resources that can help journalists, editors and newsrooms prepare confidently for today's complex safety landscape. It takes place at Sala Rafaello in the Hotel Brufani at 09.30 on Thursday 20 April.
On Saturday 22 April, Online abuse: when newsrooms fight back will share successful newsroom responses to online violence, including a framework for newsroom best practice from the Coalition Against Online Violence. Organised in partnership with PEN America, the session takes place at 10am on Saturday 22 April at Sala della Vaccara, in Palazzo dei Priori.
