June HEFAT training for Kenya-based journalists: Applications open!

Freelance and local journalists based in Kenya are invited to apply for a three-day Hostile Environment and First Aid Training (HEFAT) course taking place in Nairobi on 3-5 June 2025. The training is being organised by ACOS in partnership with Africa Uncensored. There are eighteen FREE spots available.

In line with the ACOS Alliance Safety Principles, the course is designed to help journalists who face risks and security challenges in their work to be better prepared. It will be tailored to fit the safety needs and contexts of those living and working in Kenya.
The training will be delivered in English by safety and risk expert Sharbil Nammour of Valaris Solutions, who has extensive field and newsroom experience, and will cover physical, digital security, psychological safety and first aid elements.
ACOS Alliance and Africa Uncensored will cover the course fee and meals during the period of training There may also be a limited number of travel grants available for those based out of Nairobi.
